This is a new series of collagraph prints, of real people who are in an online drawing class. These are based on quick sketches from the Monday ‘Drawing is Free’ sessions, a great way to practice quick sketches, where everyone draws for the length of a track of music 3- 5 minutes.
We are Connected…
We Are Connected is a series of nine collagraph prints, inspired by the new ways we experience community and creativity in the digital age. The work captures a group of individuals, all visible on a Zoom screen, attending a virtual drawing class. These people are strangers to one another, separated by miles, yet united by a shared activity—interpreting the same subject through their own hands and eyes, mediated by the screen.
This piece reflects the evolving nature of connection. In the past, faces were glimpsed through windows, with a similar air of mystery: the lives of our neighbours partially revealed, the rest hidden behind curtains or blinds. Now, technology allows us to reach far beyond our immediate surroundings, connecting across continents, yet the sense of intrigue remains. Who are these people? What stories lie behind their digital frames?
Though physically apart, the participants are united in focus and purpose. Their results, too, may echo this experience, if the participants choose to share again through screens and hashtags.
The series is intended to be displayed as one work, 3×3 rows of prints, linked together with chains to indicate the links that bind us together.
