Where to start with creating a drawing

I like to start a drawing with a big blank page, its such an exciting moment, full of potential! Choose a few points of the thing you want to draw, and start to try and get some accuracy between the points.

Next, choose your weapon – pencil, charcoal, inks, pastels, crayons …..

Start to look at tone – lighter darker, lighter darker – keep looking..look for a range of tones

materials

  • Charcoal – lovely loose lines, beautiful tones
  • pencil – more precision, lots of work to add tone
  • inks – you need to be very careful as it can quickly become a mess. but you can achieve a lovely loose flowing feel, be aware of keeping space for white and lighter tones
