I like to start a drawing with a big blank page, its such an exciting moment, full of potential! Choose a few points of the thing you want to draw, and start to try and get some accuracy between the points.
Next, choose your weapon – pencil, charcoal, inks, pastels, crayons …..
Start to look at tone – lighter darker, lighter darker – keep looking..look for a range of tones
materials
- Charcoal – lovely loose lines, beautiful tones
- pencil – more precision, lots of work to add tone
- inks – you need to be very careful as it can quickly become a mess. but you can achieve a lovely loose flowing feel, be aware of keeping space for white and lighter tones

types of paper
lots to choose from – cheap sources on Amazon –
For real inspiration – look at the work of the great artists – Degas, Leonardo, etc, the Royal Academy of Arts is a good place to start …https://www.royalacademy.org.uk/
