Anne makes Rubbish Art!
In today’s throwaway world, its good to know that people are taking time to think about what we can do with our old junk…
Meet Artist Anne Bickley, a wizard who turns forgotten treasures from charity shops into seasonal artworks. Anne is very environmentally conscious when it comes to making art. She likes to use things that others have thrown away, she scours charity shops and markets to find bits that are hard to sell, that no one else seems to want. With a discerning eye, she see’s potential in what other people consider to be ‘rubbish’ and thrown away.
Then she uses her creative skills and practical abilities to create lovely artworks…adding bits of tin from recycled tin cans, and melted discarded bits of plastic and re-purposed buttons and bits of broken jewellery.
Mirrors – a reflection on the world
These mirrors are made with old buttons, beads, reclaimed jewellery and melted bottle tops to create colourful fun pieces, and totally transforming the original slightly damaged or broken original. Mirrors are also symbolic as a reflection on today’s throwaway world – maybe a reminder to us to be less wasteful and re-use and recycle …
Revived and repurposed
Below, see some of Anne’s creations – repurposed plantpots, decorated with simple string make a stunning window display. An old gold platter is transformed with some colourful paint into a tree of life – and bits of tin cans decorate this heart shaped wall hanging.
Seasonal inspirations
Christmas sees old baubles and trinkets transformed into glittering decorations and wall hangings, and Easter eggs emerge from forgotten bits of kitchen utensils and discarded bric-a-brac..
So the next time you donate to a charity shop, or are thinking of chucking unwanted items away, just think of the possibilities – your castoffs just might inspire the next masterpiece in Anne’s creative world!
